this legit confused me when I moved here, no electric kettles.
I was later told that its likely becasue 110v electric kettle would take too long to boil water. but who knows.

I have an electric kettle that I use for tea and coffee. It was a pain to find, but I’m happy to have it.
Granted, I first discovered the wonders of the electric kettle in London, so I’d just be a normal, kettleless American otherwise.

That’s BS. Electric kettles are commonplace in Canada and we use 110v power.
I’ve got no idea why Americans just don’t use kettles.

But you can just put a teapot on your stove top? Why have an extra appliance for it?

Easy answer — American tea is iced :D
My Canadian SO — British/Irish Canadian heritage — and has a 110v electric kettle; it works fine if you like hot tea.
OTOH I just drink coffee like any red-blooded American ;-) so no need for a kettke lol [btw jk with the jingoism]

They are around, just not common.
I have a standard metal kettle and a range with a 3600W boiler. It gets by.

Because when working at an oil field service company you drink coffee. Two coffee makers, that’s what’s know as luxury right there.

Don’t you mean “put a teapot on the barbie”? I think that’s what they call it over there.

But why use electric? I use a range top kettle
or when camping I use a percolator set that I had given to me by my father. Similar to this
